Understanding Safeguarding & Your Responsibilities

Safeguarding is about protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults from abuse or neglect, whether caused by the actions of another person or through a failure to act. Understanding how to recognise vulnerable individuals and respond appropriately is an important part of helping prevent abuse and neglect.

The Level 1 Awareness of Safeguarding – 4 Hour Course is suitable for anyone looking to develop their understanding of safeguarding. The knowledge gained can be applied within the workplace, activity groups or any environment where individuals come into contact with children or adults at risk.

Learners will develop the knowledge needed to identify a safeguarding concern, appropriately record a disclosure and report concerns to the correct person.

The course covers key safeguarding principles, helping learners understand their responsibilities, recognise potential signs of abuse or neglect and know how to respond when a safeguarding concern is identified.

Assessment, Certification & Course Delivery

The qualification is assessed through a written assessment containing both open and multiple-choice questions. Learners must successfully pass the assessment to achieve the qualification. There is no grading system, with learners either passing or being referred.

Successful learners will receive a Level 1 Award in Awareness of Safeguarding. The qualification does not have an expiry date; however, refresher training and ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) are important to ensure learners remain up to date with changes to safeguarding policies, procedures and legislation.

The course can accommodate a maximum of 12 learners, who must be at least 14 years old. PTE Skills can also provide on-site training at your premises, with instructors available throughout the UK and training arranged at a time and date to suit your organisation.
